I thought it'd be cool to somehow fuse the 'day-glow' visuals of Poly's early punk years, with a sort of social-networking-chic... ...and lots of things getting eaten! Sadly Poly passed away around a month after the video was completed. Her vibrant music really lives on though, and her last album is definitely worth checking out. Well... Last summer I was very kindly invited to create a live installation at The Woodmill studios in London. It was one of the bestest/weirdest experiences of my life. A talented actress (Maddy Carrick), played the role of 'tropical cake salesperson', and attempted to sell home-made tropical cakes to the public, like an estate-agent. It's amazing how people reacted to this. Someone called it a cult. (I wish they'd given it the hot-shoulder... the tropical-shoulder). Anyway, I possibly went a little bit too far with this one...It's about a guy who hates disabled people, (alarm bells...) but because of equal opportunities, he is forced to interview them for a job at a tropical cake shop... sounds good right? I really like anti-heroes, you see, and I thought it would be a good chance to introduce a bit of pathos at the end. Pathos within absurdity – it's my nectar. The lip sync is a bit 'uncanny-valley-weird', but that was probably the point.
